Our Harbour provides support & housing for English-speaking persons with mental health problems on the South Shore of Montreal. Using the L’Abri en ville model of setting up apartments were three persons with mental health problems can affordably live together and be supported by volunteers. Each of our apartments is monitored by a team of a professional staff member and dedicated volunteers.
Known as Apartment visitors, volunteers support residents from going to appointments to just having a chat over a good cup of tea . Residents are encouraged to actively participate in community events , go on outings and become more independent and confident in themselves.
Over the last five years Our Harbour has grown from one apartment to four and now provides housing support to twelve persons . Through the financial support of government, foundations, churches along with community groups and individuals. Our Harbour is making a difference by offering hope to persons with a mental illness. Through our volunteers we have built sense of community and extended family that is truly valued by both the residents and their families.
