The West Island Palliative Care Centre is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the care of patients during the final days of a terminal illness.
The staff and volunteers of the Residence will provide palliative care for their patients and their families by responding to their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs during the course of the illness and bereavement period.
The patient’s stay and care at the West Island Palliative Care Residence is covered by Medicare and health insurance programs.
The West Island Palliative Care Centre offers comprehensive palliative treatment; our goal is care, rather than cure. The doctors use sophisticated pain and symptom control protocols to help keep the patient alert and comfortable as long as possible.
We also provide bereavement and spiritual programs for both the patient and the patient’s family.
The Residence has nine patient rooms each equipped with a bathroom and a private patio. It also has a playroom for children, a family room, a solarium, a complete kitchen, library and a bedroom for out-of-town visitors.
Referral Process Referrals of patients to the Residence must come from hospitals, CLSCs, General Practitioners or the VON. Patients must reside on the West Island and/or receive health care on the West Island.
