Overview

Whether due to injury, illness or de-conditioning, many experience temporary or permanent disability and perhaps loss of independence or even sense of self. In this presentation, we look at the value and role of assistive devices in making everyday activities more manageable and less strenuous, thus helping to maintain independence, conserve energy, and reduce physical strain during their daily activities.

Objectives

  • To be able to identify various assistive devices with different use
  • To understand how to effectively use assistive devices
  • To learn how one might access assistive devices within your communities

Talya Abran-Bromley is an Occupational therapist who graduated from the applied Master’s in Occupational Therapy at McGill University in 2015. She is currently working at Kinatex Sports Physio, a private clinic in the West Island of Montreal. She works primarily with injured workers, individuals who have had motor vehicle accidents, as well as clients struggling with their mental health. Talya also enjoys working with seniors and animates a senior’s group weekly where she has covered topics such as Fall Prevention, mental health in aging, and also incorporates cognitive, fine motor and gross motor activities to her weekly sessions.
