Enhancing Regional Community Capacity Initiative (ERCC)

The ERCC initiative was designed to support regional English-speaking community organizations to increase their capacity to work in collaboration with government partners and service providers in their region.

2018 – 2021

Strengthening the capacity of local and regional community organizations

Our partnership agreement with the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise (SRQEA) for the ERCC project ran for three years to better respond to the needs and priorities of English-speaking communities with government and regional stakeholders.

Through this project, 20+ organizations diversified their mandates to non-health and social services sectors such as education, social and economic development, and arts and culture to name a few.

Central elements for the project were to:

Create new satellite points of contact

This is done to extend the territorial coverage of services to the province’s English-speaking communities within the existing regional organizations.

Expand into new sectors of activity other than health

We’re diversifying the mandate of organizations currently working in a single activity sector (health) by turning them into multipurpose organizations (employment, culture, economic development, youth development, etc.).

Translate key documents for increased accessibility

We make it easier for local and regional organizations to raise awareness about their issues on the national stage, which is key to supporting project development.

Increase representation with government stakeholders

Increase the organizations’ ability to represent their communities within regional, provincial, and national organizations.
