2017-2021

A 4-year Youth Employment project divided into 2 phases

The Youth Employment project involved expanding the capacity of the Centre jeunesse emploi (CJE), increasing in-house employability services as needed, and building awareness of the CJEs and other employability services.

Participating organizations identified key barriers to employment for English-speaking youth, including but not limited to:

  • Inadequate spoken or written French skills, or a gap in services available in English
  • Barriers surrounding cultural, technical or required skills
  • Confidence issues about entering the workforce
  • Unawareness or mistrust of the services offered by the CJEs
  • Lack of integration with the French community
  • Failure from employers to recognize the benefits of having English-speaking or bilingual employees
  • Discrimination from colleagues and employers
